The Financial Planning Association is honoring four financial professionals with the 2017 Heart of Financial Planning Award for their commitment to the profession.

This year’s winners are Michael Branham, Scott M. Kahan, Marty Kurtz and Tanya Steinhofer for demonstrating the association’s core values of competence, integrity, relationships and stewardship.

Branham, a senior financial planner at the Planning Center serving Minneapolis and St. Paul and Alaska, received the award for his ongoing commitment to the future of financial planning and for helping to advance aspiring CFP professionals. As the youngest president of the FPA in 2013, Branham was a thoughtful and articulate voice for the financial planning community and the profession.

Kahan, the president and senior financial planner at Financial Asset Management Corporation in New York, received the award for his devotion to helping underserved populations. Serving on the board of trustees and the finance committee for the Foundation for Financial Planning, Kahan has a strong commitment to stewarding the grant resources available through the foundation. He has also worked with individuals affected by the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.

Kurtz, the founder and a partner at the Planning Center, which serves six locations across the country, is being honored for his dedication to inspiring the next generation of financial planners and for his unwavering support of the fiduciary standard. A member of the FPA’s board of directors from 2009 to 2012, he served as the association’s president in 2011.

Steinhofer, a principal of Redwood Grove Wealth Management in Marin County, Calif., is being honored for serving both the financial planning community and the public. She has dedicated herself to helping women and families with young children gain financial stability. She also serves on the advisory board for the Bay Area Financial Education Foundation, which helps foster economic education and financial literacy among Bay Area youth.

The awards will be presented at the 2017 FPA Annual Conference, to be held in Nashville October 2 to October 4.
