Jude Boudreaux, CFP®, Senior Financial Planner at The Planning Center, was recently featured in a CNBC article where he discussed paying U.S. taxes while living abroad. The piece reminds American citizens that, even if they reside outside of the country, they’ll likely still need to file federal income tax returns if their gross income exceeds a certain amount.
Jude suggested that working with an accountant who has experience filing taxes in both the U.S. and the foreign country they currently or eventually will live in is key to avoiding double taxation and other costly penalties. “It’s not something that every tax preparer does,” said Boudreaux. “It’s an important step to take to find somebody with the expertise.”
